Smallville Season Two
SCORE: 69
I must admit Smallville is a show that I enjoy watching. I have taken a critical honest analysis on the show and realize there are a significant amount of issues with this show. This makes me question why I ever found this show to be so enjoyable. Smallville Season Two fleshes out the characters a lot, and grants Clark Kent a new power (heat vision). It is interesting that heat vision is tied to sexual thoughts in this television show. I suppose they wanted to push the envelope. The introduction of Dr Swan (Christopher Reeves) was a nice touch in Smallville Season Two as well.
True fans of the show can point out the color scheme used on Clark Kent. He uses a lot of reds and blues. His parents dress conservatively, but not all the female characters follow that good example. There are some visual enticement to lust issues with Smallville Season Two, and quite a bit of violence. The blood and gore got a little tiresome. Rarely did they contribute to the plot in my opinion. The show would have been fine without them.
My biggest disappointment with Smallville Season Two is the language. There is no need for bad language, especially in a Superman based show. But unfortunately there are a few words re-used that I would not want children repeating. In fact adults do not need to succumb to that vice either. The main theme song continues to inspire.
Smallville Season Two has a nice amount of special features. The problem is some of them contain offensive content (i.e. language). I would love to have an extra of the television shows all cleaned up. Maybe the WB will implement that after reading this review.
The functionality of Smallville Season Two is decent. I am not sure why on one main screen if I hit the menu button it starts playing the first episode on the disc. I suppose the WB wants to teach us patience in terms of getting to the main menu, or they created a nice shortcut that got mapped to the wrong button.
Smallville Season Two has
a wonderful season finale that seems like it is almost impossible to
come back from. This show also teaches there are consequences for our
actions. Those are the good things. The bad are murder, adultery,
teenagers having more rights than parents. That last one bothered me the
most. There is a rarely much punishment given for out right bold faced
disobedience.
