Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales
SCORE: 70
Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and Other Magical
Tales contains three stories the letter quest, the shoe fairy, and the
cookie touch. The main program is 48 minutes, which is on the short
side. However that is what Family Friendly Gaming has come to expect
from Sesame Street DVDs. The letters 'Y', and 'S' are a couple of the
letters children can learn from this DVD.
Many of the same characters are used in the three stories on Sesame
Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales. Expect
Elmo, Abby, and Telly in each of them. Elmo and Abby have little skits
in between them as well. There are different human characters used on
this DVD, but not a lot of diversity there either. Controversial actor
Neil Patrick Harris is present on this DVD as well. Cookie Monster
looked a little strange to me on this DVD, but maybe because it has been
awhile since I have seen him. Fairies permeate this product in the
majority of the stories as well.
It is always good to see products that teach children. Sesame Street
Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales teaches
differences, two letters, about shoe fairies, cookie fairies, and
triangles. There is some political correctness on this DVD, and it
really made no sense to me. I also noticed some attempts at humor.
Neither myself or children laughed at it. Normally I will see kids laugh
at jokes on DVDs for children.
I beat one drum when it comes to Sesame Street DVDs - the length. For
the price, families can get a lot more bang for their buck with other
products for children. Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest
and Other Magical Tales does contain an extra in the form of a
claymation Bert and Ernie short. The one comment from children when
Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales
finished was: "that's it?" To my surprise they were not interested in
watching it again, they wanted to watch something else.
The menu screens of Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The Letter Quest and
Other Magical Tales exhibit an intelligent design. I had no problems
navigating through them either. Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The
Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales repeats lessons multiple times to
cement them into young brains. Having all those fairies for things
bothered me.
I noticed something interesting in Sesame Street Elmo and Friends The
Letter Quest and Other Magical Tales. No one pays for anything. They
walk up, ask for something and get it. They ask for something else
later, and they get it. One character suggest they go to a shoe store
for shoes, and they are told no. Instead they are given something for
free. This stuck out because we have been digging into a Dave Ramsey
book, and teaching our children the value of a dollar. The Cookie Touch
does lightly teach the concept of King Midas.
