Samba de Amigo

I was extremely excited to find Samba de Amigo on Amazon for just under ten dollars. I checked with the editor in chief and found out that no one else had reviewed it, so I purchased this Wii game and got to shaking my maracas (once it arrived of course). When I started playing Samba de Amigo a lot of things went wrong. No wonder Sega did not mail this game in to Family Friendly Gaming. Players move the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in the right position and shake one (or both) when the little ball gets into the circle. There are also points where the controllers must be put in a certain position (pose), or moving back and forth in to simulate dancing.

Samba de Amigo has a lot of bright colors and that is what saves the graphics from being a dismal failure. The problems in this Wii game are numerous. There are certain female characters wearing few threads. One looks like she is in a bikini. Their animation is sexually suggestive. If you have seen salsa dancing then you know exactly what to expect. The little balls are hard to see at first and they have a short distance to travel. The background graphics are so intense that they can be distracting. If you get distracted you miss. The other choice is to ignore everything else going on visually which makes me wonder why it is even there.

There are some well known Latin songs in Samba de Amigo. The lyrics to some of these songs is not always the greatest though. I found the music itself to be very upbeat, and energetic. I wish certain lyrics were not included though.

Sega included a fair amount of content in Samba de Amigo. Two players can play this game, and there are multiple difficulty settings. The question I have is: “who is going to want to replay this game?” I am putting this game away, because I have no interest in playing it anymore. I feel like I wasted my money on Samba de Amigo.

My right shoulder hurts from playing this Wii game. My left shoulder is fine. This tells me this game is geared more towards those who are right handed. I failed the gameplay because the controls do not always register. This really frustrated me. I could never figure out the pattern either. Sometimes it worked fine, and others it would not register a certain side.

Samba de Amigo may teach that life is a party, but playing this game is a lot of hard work. I hope Sega leaves this franchise in the vaults. It needs a lot of improvements in my opinion.
