Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Whenever I think there are no other franchises from the past that can be successfully turned into video games, someone comes along with an idea that makes perfect sense. Enter Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on the Nintendo DS. You remember the show that is only played this time of year. Now there is a video game that compliments it. This hand held video game tells the story, and has family members play various mini games along the way. Some are as easy as color or decorating. Others are winning a race, or jumping from roof top to roof top.

The graphics in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer range. The storytelling element of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer looks as good as the television show, if not better. Some of the mini games have tiny graphics. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a game that I feel is geared toward children. Adults can play it, but how many adults enjoy coloring? There is a little comic mischief in doing things like trapping Abominable Snowman.

How do you feel about the song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? If you like that song, you will love the music in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for the Nintendo DS. I happen to like the song, so the music in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer brings a smile to my face. If you do not like the song, then it can be turned off in the options. The special effect sounds fit this game masterfully. I love how inclusive Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is. More on that later.

When I started playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on the DS, I thought it would be over pretty quickly. I expected the license to be used for the name only, and there would not be a lot of replay value to it. I was wrong. And big time. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has a lot of mini games to play, and four different stories. Just playing through all the stories can take five hours. You have to unlock all of them though. I could not make it through one story in one sitting. Children really get into Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, making it a sure pick for a Christmas present.

Almost every single mini game in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is easy to play. There are a few that took me a couple of tries. Children can also pick up this game and enjoy it without getting stuck (editor: too often). The core of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is finding your place. Rudolph runs away because of how he is treated by the other reindeer. His parents still love him, and he even has a love interest. The neglected toys get taken care of thanks to Rudolph keeping his word and remembering who helped him out.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer contains various good lessons. Helping those less fortunate than yourself, saving your family and friends, and using your God given talents to keep things running smoothly. I really enjoyed playing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on the DS. I hope Red Wagon Games continues to produce games like this in the future. There are plenty of other franchises from the past just waiting to be brought back.
