Prince of Persia The Fallen King

Prince of Persia has had a rocky past. Some of the early games were decent, but recent releases have gotten darker. I was pretty excited to see Prince of Persia The Fallen King on clearance. This is a Nintendo DS video game that was granted the ‘E’ for Everyone rating. That was my first issue with this game - the rating the ESRB bestowed. Prince of Persia The Fallen King has the player hacking and slashing enemies, and there is no choice in the matter. Players are stuck in certain areas until they kill all the bad guys. Early on the player meets a magician who ‘assists’ the player through the levels. The quest they are on is to remove a dark god, and save a king. This king can keep the dark god in check. The corruption is what made the king fall. Hence the name.

Visually there is a lot of repetition in Prince of Persia The Fallen King. There is also a lot of violence, and some animations that make little to no sense. For example, the player could jump over a small pit. The game has the player drop down, jump across, hang on the other side, and then climb up. Why couldn’t the character just jump over the small pit?

Prince of Persia The Fallen King has some interesting music that also gets repetitive as the game progresses. The dialogue in this Nintendo DS game has spiritual implications. There is evil in this game, and it can affect anyone. How the player deals with it is strange. Most Christians will have problems with the dialogue in Prince of Persia The Fallen King. I was not thrilled by it, and wondered why it had to be included. It made little to no sense. There could have been many other reasons for an epic quest.

Players collect coins, and can purchase certain items in certain items. More like opening a door that grants a chest. Prince of Persia The Fallen King also grants the player new powers throughout the game. Players can go back to previous levels to use these skills to unlock certain paths. Some story elements require the player revisits certain levels. Only one player can play Prince of Persia The Fallen King at a time.

The biggest disappointments in Prince of Persia The Fallen King is the controls. I had more problems with the touch controls not working in various levels. This led to a quick death, and a reset to the last continuation flag. This led me to become very frustrated. There are also some bosses in Prince of Persia The Fallen King that are very difficult to defeat. The game gives no hints on how to defeat them. I can see this leading players to just giving up eventually.

The player works with dubious spiritual powers to win the day in Prince of Persia The Fallen King. Parents need to be aware of the content of this game. The rating could easily fool many parents into a purchase, and they will not want their kids exposed to this content. I also found a lot of this game to be boring.
