Playmobil Pirates

I can see hardcore gamers dismissing Playmobil Pirates based on the name alone. If they do that, they will be missing a really solid Nintendo DS game. Playmobil Pirates even pays homage to recent pirate movies. On one mission you become a rum runner. Although nothing is said about the legality of sailing rum to a port that is all out.

Graphics in Playmobil Pirates fall into three categories. The side scrolling levels, the mini games, and the sea areas. I was impressed with the first two, but that last one has some tiny graphics. I felt like I was playing with little toys in the bath tub. For me that was a very long time ago.

Man the music is awesome in Playmobil Pirates. I expected this part of this DS game to be subpar, but it is awesome. The tracks change on different islands, that have some neat themes. Special effect sound bytes worked marvelously in Playmobil Pirates as well. The bad part of this hand held video game is some the language, as well as insinuations. Adults will pick up on them, and children will be asking you questions about what was meant.

You will get your moneys worth out of Playmobil Pirates on the Nintendo DS. There are a lot of missions that are unlocked after completing the last one. Players will spend a few weeks to month completely going through this DS game. Unlocked mini games are playable later. Playmobil Pirates also contains multi-player modes for up to two people.

Playmobil Pirates is really three kinds of games sewn together to make a really cool experience. I enjoyed sailing, doing a side scrolling level, and then doing a mini game. That kept the game fresh. My one complaint is having to gamble in the mini games. I hated putting money on the line, especially when a lot of the mini games were chance based.

You are a pirate in Playmobil Pirates, and you are on a quest to save a mermaid from soldiers. I liked how the developers kept the main character pretty clueless in how many things in that kind of a world worked. I was not so big on some of the missions that were criminal or borderline criminal. All in all Playmobil Pirates is much better than I expected it to be.
