Planet Hulk

For those that do not know, or do not remember, I have a background in comic books. When I was a boy my mother could get me G.I. Joe comics from the local 7-11. That was the gateway comic that got me into the super heroes. I still check out comic books (and graphic novels) from the library. I have read Planet Hulk and World War Hulk. Both are interesting stories. Planet Hulk being the one I found most interesting. So I was geeking out when I heard there was going to be an animated movie adaptation of Planet Hulk. So much so we published various press releases online (editor: in the news section).

The Hulk is a violent character, and he reaches new levels of violence in Planet Hulk. There are some disturbing images in Planet Hulk. The best example would be a little girl disintegrating in someone’s arms because of a powerful fire bomb weapon that was unleashed. There is also spores that can turn people into zombie like creatures. Which leads certain characters to kill family members. Blood flows freely, and there is a lot of gore in Planet Hulk.

The music in this movie fits the theme of the movie. At times I felt it could have been more majestic though. Planet Hulk contains a lot of hate and anger in it. There are also words in this movie that I told my children not to repeat. Authority figures are shown to be bad, and deserving of disrespect.

There are various choices out there with different price points. The more money you pay the more extras you receive. I have to say that few of the bonus features are worth the money in my opinion. They try to explain away some of their choices in terms of storyline changes in Planet Hulk, which did not cut it with me.

The menu screens operate naturally and that is the only thing that saves Planet Hulk from a failing grade in this section. They butchered the story, and changed things that should not have been changed. Way too much was cut out. This movie is 81 minutes long. They could have added forty minutes and put in much of the missing content. The ending is what will irritate fans the most. I had high hopes for Planet Hulk, and was very disappointed.

Families need to be careful with cartoons now-a-days. They are not what they once were. Planet Hulk contains a lot of bad attitudes, over the top violence, and devious behavior. Planet Hulk teaches distrust of authority on one side, and fighting against evil on the other. I had hoped for a World War Hulk movie, but not if they treat it the same way.
