Planet 51 The Game

Sega has a long history of making fantastic video games. Sure there have been a few clunkers along the way. Normally their movie based video games are awesome. Planet 51 The Game feels like it came from an entirely different publisher. I snatched up a copy of this game on the Playstation 3. Planet 51 The Game can also be found on the Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360. There is also a Nintendo DS version, but that is different from the home console. When I saw this game on clearance I thought it would be a racing game, and I was excited about that. Unfortunately Planet 51 The Game is not a racing game, it is more of an errand game. You help out various people doing things like mowing the lawn, and making deliveries. There are some races in Planet 51 The Game, and that disappoints as well.

I have seen enough Playstation 3 games to be impressed with graphics in recent years. Planet 51 The Game did not impress me. In fact I felt like a lot of the details were lacking. The town is set up in the most irritating fashion that makes the compass almost un-useable. There are missions where you have to smash and bash into other vehicles. The lips do not match the words being spoken. This tells me that corners were cut when this game was developed.

The music in Planet 51 The Game is okay. I was not to thrilled with it, and some of the special effect sounds grated on my nerves. The whole humans are not real is an interesting concept since this game is set on an alien world. Certain characters will be insulting, and there is some trash talking in Planet 51 The Game. I was not impressed with the voice acting either. Much of it made little sense to me.

Planet 51 The Game contains a nice amount of unlockable vehicles. The problem is most of the felt very similar in controls, and I saw little reason to upgrade. I did upgrade, but again it felt mainly aesthetic. There are forty missions in Planet 51 The Game. Two players can compete in this game at the same time as well.

The biggest problem I have with Planet 51 The Game is the loose controls. Normally I was able to recover, but then there is the way this game cheats to keep the computer close. I would do really well, and get ahead. The computer cars would find their way back up close to me. I was never able to shake them. I found the best way to win was make a mad dash at the end. That made Planet 51 The Game absolutely no fun whatsoever. The story elements are interesting, but I would rather watch the movie.

The exceptional thing about Planet 51 The Game is you get to do a lot of helping people. Planet 51 The Game has you doing a lot of chores for various people. There are a lot of characters in this game. Some of them are nicer than others. If there are any sequels to Planet 51 The Game it really needs to go a completely different route. I felt like I wasted money on this game.
