Pet Pals New Leash on Life

Animal games have been a huge hit on the DS for the last couple of years, and look for this trend to continue with Pet Pals: New Leash on Life. This fun and entertaining game is a veterinarian simulation. Gamers can step into the role of a veterinarian as they care for pet friends of all shapes and sizes. They can take part in over 30 animal cases created by practicing veterinarians from around the world.

Pet Pals: New Leash on Life is designed for aspiring vets of all ages. Players can take part in the cases and help control the fate of each animal. There are over 30 animal cases, including more than 15 breeds of cats, dogs, rabbits and birds, as well as exotic animals like iguanas and chinchillas.

Gamers can experience emergency situations and non-medical pet care interactions - including grooming, caretaking and feeding. The game includes a reward system that includes trophies, encouraging answering machine messages and staff encouragement. As the game progresses, the difficulty of the cases and task increases to make the game more challenging.

The gameplay is very straight forward and utilizes the DS mechanics very well. The DS touch screen is used to administer meds, give shots, take blood and use swabs. The game uses a “connect the dots” method to achieve some of the task. This works well in most cases. The soundtrack is adequate, as it is almost unnoticeable, which is not necessarily all bad. Also worth noting, there are different characters in the game such as other vets, and it is interesting to seem them interact. The conversations give each of them a personality with the game.

Pet Pals: New Leash on Life may not be for the youngest DS gamers, as there is a lot of reading involved, but perhaps parents can play this title with their younger children. Helping others and finishing tasks are only a few good lessons gamers can take from Pet Pals: New Leash on Life.
