Parachute Xtreme

One of the things that got me started in the video game industry is innovation. There are so many wonderful ideas out there. The iPod Touch/iPhone has opened the door to many small companies, and allowed them to bring fun ideas to the market place. Parachute Xtreme! is one of those games. Players tap their character after the game says: "GO," fall, and then tap their character again when they want to pull the parachute.

For those wondering, you can fall all the way down, and go splat. You lose the level, so doing so makes no intelligent sense. Players have health bars, and the less parachute time they have, the more damage their health can take. If you lose all your health you lose the level. The farther one goes in Parachute Xtreme! the more jumps they have to make. Let us say there are four characters jumping. The last one to land gets squashed by a big mechanical thing. The next jump there are three, and then the last jump there is one.

I am pleasantly surprised by the graphics in Parachute Xtreme! on the iPod Touch. The bright colors, fantastic art work, and good details help this game stand apart. Thankfully there is no gore when a character goes splat, or gets crushed by that big mechanical thing. To be honest I see no reason for it. They could have had the last place person walk off the screen. Which would have made a lot more sense.

The music in Parachute Xtreme! is very upbeat. I like the tempo of this game, and the storyline of saving the kidnapped girl. The characters have a comic book feel to them, especially when they have little phrases above their heads. Some are better than others in my opinion. The phrases: get, set, and go assist Parachute Xtreme! with the ambiance. They can also get stuck in your head.

There are enough worlds and levels in Parachute Xtreme! to keep most app gamers busy for a week or more. And that is for ninety-nine cents right now. Family Friendly Gaming was given a download code for this review. With that stated, I do believe Parachute Xtreme! is worth the price of admission. Gamers get a lot for the penny shy of one dollar.

Parachute Xtreme! starts out very easy. Touch your character when they jump, and touch them to pull the parachute. The hard part is making sure you place high enough, and keep enough health. Then tilting is adding into the mix. Tilt the unit left or right to collect additional points, and land in a certain spot for even more points. Then bombs are put into place, and then well you will see. Parachute Xtreme! had a steady learning curve. I had fun playing this app.

Parachute Xtreme! reminds me of the game of chicken. Pulling that chute at the last possible moment to make it to the ground first is the main lesson. Death is there if any mistakes are made. But the death in Parachute Xtreme! is never permanent. I hope to see sequels to this franchise in the near future. It was my personal pleasure to be able to play and review this app.
