New Super Mario Bros Wii
SCORE: 93
New Super Mario Bros Wii is one of those games I had to go out and purchase at full price. Family Friendly Gaming has spoiled me over the years. Brand spanking new video games cost a lot of money to purchase. Nintendo is one of the worst when it comes to price too. Other publishers will bring down the prices of their games, yet Nintendo expects the same price for even older games. Then they release press releases bragging about how much money they have made. They could cut consumers a few breaks here and there. Learn a lesson from NEC and the Turboduo.
The graphics are sharp in New Super Mario Bros Wii. Even the dark areas have light that the players always gravitate towards. Enemies can be stomped, frozen, and sent packing thanks to a fireball. The violence is part of this game, but not the central theme. Exploration, and level completion is the main goals of New Super Mario Bros Wii. There are some neat little animations like the enemies dancing to the background music. It is obvious that Nintendo put in little touches for those looking for them (editor: like us).
New Super Mario Bros Wii contains music that Mario fans will be very used to. I noticed some new variations, but the music felt familiar. The same goes for the special effect sounds. There is some humor in this Wii game, but it is mainly visual. The concept of your princess is in another castle is continued in this game.
Nintendo included so many hidden secrets that you will be busy for a few weeks. After the game is beaten there is a secret world. The catch is you need to get the large coins in an entire world to open a level in that secret world. Four players can play together in New Super Mario Bros Wii. This is cool in some ways, but it can be problematic as well.
Too many video games frustrate players and never get finished. New Super Mario Bros Wii changes all of that. If you die too many times in the same level, the game will offer you a guide to show how the level can be beaten. You can then try it, again, or skip the level. Skipping the level puts the player in the very next level. This is absolute genius. The controls work wonderfully, even though there are some irritating areas.
New Super Mario Bros Wii
is exactly what the video game industry needed. There is innovation,
familiarity, and fun. I hope to see more remakes like this in the near
future. Families can enjoy this game and learn to work as a team. I am
glad that I spent the money on this game.
