NBA JAM

The back cover of NBA JAM states: "BOOMSHAKALAKA IS BACK!" I tend to agree. NBA JAM brings back so many wonderful memories. Super monster dunks, steals, big heads, Tim Kitzrow's voice, and getting on fire have all returned thanks to EA Sports. They could have stopped there, but they added content like boss battles. Four family members can compete together in NBA JAM just watch the smack talking. Two on two arcade style basketball action is breaking the backboards.

The amazing animations are back in NBA JAM, and you will be laughing as you see some of them. I noticed a lot of diversity in the slam dunk moves. Watching the various moves is part of the fun of NBA JAM. The special effects in this Wii game are fantastic. I really enjoyed seeing the crowd reaction, mascots, and even the coaches. The players look good in NBA JAM, but this is not a realistic basketball game.

The commentary in NBA JAM is what makes this Wii game so much fun. The gameplay is too fast for play by play, so expect fun sound bytes like: "Rejected, He's Heating Up, Kaboom, and He's on Fire!" The music in NBA JAM fits the theme of the franchise. All of the sounds are very crisp and clear in NBA JAM. I will warn you that after a few hours even BoomShakalaka deserves a break.

What was EA Sports thinking with the unlockables? Over one hundred unlockable teams, characters, privileges, and playable mascots. It takes true dedication to unlock everything in NBA JAM. Multiple campaign modes, bosses, and various game play modes. Families will be enjoying NBA JAM next year. I almost forgot, all thirty NBA teams are in this home console game as well. There is so much unlockable content that it is almost insane. I was not expecting so much from EA Sports. They came through with some major game.

The controls are very responsive in NBA JAM. I love how the controls are set up with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The classic controller can also be used for this Wii game. All of the classic moves have returned, like swatting at the ball to steal, or shoving the other players. Have I mentioned the super human dunks yet? Oh yeah that's right I have. NBA JAM can be played solo, but it is so much more fun to play against other humans.

The goal in NBA JAM is to win. Players do that by being aggressive. The more aggressive you play, the higher your score will be. I used NBA JAM as an opportunity to explain to my boys that shoving other players is not a clean way of playing basketball. The plus side to NBA JAM is family members can have some arcade fun. And fun is something we had here at Family Friendly Gaming. I am so happy to see EA Sports breathing new life into this franchise. I hope they continue to give old franchises this kind of treatment in the future.
