Megaman Starforce 2
SCORE: 75
My initial reactions to Megaman Starforce 2 were positive. So much so that with all the improvements Capcom put into this franchise, I was sure it would rate higher. The more I dug into this hand held video game, the more problems I found. Geo Stelar continues to use his alien companion to wave change into an almost spiritual world (digital). The storyline focuses around various myths like the Loch Ness Monster, and the Abominable Snowman.
Megaman StarForce 2 continues the graphical style, and has increased the virus busting violence. There is a lot more fighting in Megaman StarForce 2 than the original. I was really hoping for a leap in the graphics, but they are still just a step up from the Gameboy Advance Battle Network series. Megaman can transform into various forms, but honestly none of them look great. Seeing that lion head for a hand is starting to freak me out too.
The constant chitter chatter in this game can be the worst part. Some of the dialogue can go on forever. Much of it does not seem to allow the story to flow. In fact at times it did not make sense. One character wants to protect others so she does the bidding of the bad guys. The music did not thrill me in Megaman StarForce 2 as much as the original. The ghosts, and myths that dominated the storyline did not help this Nintendo DS game either.
If you feel like performing a lot of side quests then you will find replay value in Megaman StarForce 2. The story went a lot faster, and was over too quickly for my tastes. I would say pass on this DS game.
Capcom improved the getting stuck problem from the previous game. There are still some parts of Megaman StarForce 2 that need adjustments. One boss is nearly impossible to defeat because he can block any attack. The computer is very cheap at using this skill. I also noticed I was hitting the button to move at times, and my character stood there eating an attack. I also miss having rows to move back to, because certain enemies attacks can be very cheap.
I did find some positive
messages in Megaman StarForce 2. Geo wants to help people, and he
protects his friends. He has embraced other people, and shuns the hermit
lifestyle. The problem is how he defends his friends. He fights over and
over again. He also hides who he really is from most people. There are
also some questionable characters in this DS game.
