Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story

Certain franchises can go on and on for decades. Others need to be left for awhile so we can miss them. The Mario and Luigi role playing game franchise is sort of in the middle. Every so many years Nintendo releases a new one. Not quite enough time to miss it, and not close enough for the games to feel connected. The RPG Master went out and purchased this game because Family Friendly Gaming did not receive a reviewable copy. After playing this Nintendo DS game, this reviewer speculates - that decision may have been on purpose. Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story has some flaws. The first problem is having Bowser as the main character. This should be considered more of a Bowser role playing game than Mario & Luigi.

Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story contains a great deal of bright colors. There are various enemies the player must vanquish. Bowser punches, and breathes fire on them while Mario & Luigi use their jumps and hammers. Bowser’s minions are used for his special attacks once they have been freed. The violent content gets very redundant.

The RPG Master is absolutely shocked at some of the language in Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story. Bowser is rude, disrespectful, and ugly to friends and foes alike. Using a bad character as a hero has never set well with this reviewer. Nintendo tried their hand at it, and it just does not feel right. The food based humor is interesting, but this reviewer never wound up laughing. The music is good, and worthy of a mention.

The odd thing about Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story is it feels shorter than other Mario & Luigi role playing games. Maybe this reviewer has played so many that the concepts are the same. There are various items that can be discovered by exploring. This DS game makes sure that most areas are revisited so you will not have to go far. If the game play does not bother you, this game can be worth the money.

Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story makes the player work in terms of avoiding damage. This depends on timing, and observation. Enemies have a pattern and telegraph their attacks. Save spots are liberally thrown around the world which fits perfectly for a hand held video game. Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story was a chore to play and review.

Fawful wants the dark star, and he gets Bowser to inhale Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and more. Bowser goes on a quest to save the kingdom. The reason he does this is so he can conquer the world himself. Do not expect many honorable goals in Mario & Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story.
