Hexyz Force

Hexyz Force has one of the coolest features the RPG Master has seen in many, many years. Players take on the role of one character and play through their story. Then they get to go through the game as a completely different character. Now these two groups meet one another along the way. Their interactions change based upon choices made the first play through. Nothing this cool has happened to the role play game genre since Shining Force III on the Saturn.

The artistic style in Hexyz Force is great. The various characters have a bright and colorful look to them. Well the good guys do, and many of the bad guys have a darker color scheme to them. There are numerous female characters in Hexyz Force who are exposing a lot of skin. The RPG genre has a real bad name because of that, and Hexyz Force continues that image.

The music in Hexyz Force is exceptional. The RPG Master enjoyed listening to it as well as the voice acting in this hand held video game. The bad side to Hexyz Force is there is some bad language. The RPG Master was actually shocked to see it. In this reviewers opinion there was no need for such language in this game it detracts from what could have been a much better game.

Getting to play two related stories with different characters is one of the coolest aspects of Hexyz Force. That bestows some nice replay value. There are plenty of various items in Hexyz Force that can be created. Destroying enemies gives the player various items. Hexyz Force also includes a Creation versus Destruction will grant the player different endings based on which one is higher at the end of the game, or exactly the same.

Hexyz Force has an interesting leveling up system. Fighting enemies (editor: that can be seen) grant experience points as well as Force Points. Force points can be used to level up skills, and heal the team. During the fight the player can let a force burst gauge grow. When it gets high enough super powered attacks can be used. Be careful though, because it takes awhile to grow the gauge. Using these skills are very useful on bosses.

The storyline in Hexyz Force includes gods and a goddess. The Creation versus Destruction concept is great. There is a light teaching in reincarnation in Hexyz Force as well. The RPG Master does not comprehend why religious content in role playing games is not regionalized for the majority faith in America. The bad guys want to destroy the world while the good guys want to save it. Although some of the good characters in Hexyz Force are not that interested in doing the right thing.
