Heroes Season 1

I had heard good things, and bad things about the television show Heroes. When I saw Season 1 and Season 2 on sale at a store, I decided to check it out. This is the review for Season 1 only. This show is strong, and a lot like a comic book. At least Season 1 is. These various people have super hero powers. One can fly, another is super strong, and another can teleport through space and time. The most interesting character is the one who can see the future. A huge bomb is going to decimate New York City. The various heroes all have their parts to play in making it happen, or stopping it.

NBC sure pushed the envelope as far as they could graphically. There is a lot of blood, gore, and enticement to lust issues. Cheating on a husband/wife has a high frequency in this show. The visual gore in Heroes Season 1 means this is an adults only television show. If you want to subject yourself to things like the tops of heads cut off. There is also one character who is a drug addict. The super hero visual effects are spectacular, and are shown quite a bit.

Heroes Season 1 has some fantastic music that is still stuck in my head. There is a lot of talk of evolution, as these heroes are described as the next evolutionary step for man. There are also some language problems in this show, and concepts like using power for personal gain are touched upon. There is a lot of anger and hatred by many characters. Again this is not a show for children.

Almost every single episode contains commentary, and there are a few special features on the seventh disc in this package. Unfortunately some of the extra content is not appreciated or well received. In other words it can be offensive. There is a lot of it so this section receives a passing score.

Heroes Season 1 has a tightly woven storyline. In fact I am glad I got to see it on DVD, because I did not have to wait a week (or more in some cases) for the next episode. The menu screens exhibit an intelligent design, and are generally easy to navigate. I ran into a few issues with where the blood splat put me.

Heroes Season 1 is very addicting, and can get in your head. In fact I had trouble sleeping after watching a few episodes at night. Families should avoid this show due to all of the bad content. They could have told this story without showing all the murders, sex, and thrown in evolution. I do like the joy that Hiro exhibits, and he is a great character.
