Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest

Heathcliff is one of those characters that has not gotten a lot of video game exposure. Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest is a Mario Kart clone where players are racing against aliens to get Sonja back. These aliens have kidnapped her, and the only way Heathcliff can get her back is to defeat them in races. Yeah I know what many of our readers are thinking. I don't make this stuff up, I just review it. The story is told through comic book style pictures that are of exceptionally high quality.

There are various colors used in Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest for the Wii. The details on the graphics are a little bland though. Different tracks have different themes, and there are various vehicles as well as racers. Like Mario Kart there are weapons that can be picked up and used in multiple parts of the track. Unlike Mario Kart you can see exactly what they are. So I could angle myself to what I wanted.

When I started to play Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest I was getting into the music, the storyline - you know everything. Then I played the first race series. There is a weapon that allows the player to have booming speakers - which is pretty cool. I also heard some of the same phrases from different characters way too often, and that started to irritate me.

Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest includes numerous modes, difficulties, and race tracks. Two family members can compete in this game at the same time if they so choose. Family Friendly Gaming was given a reviewable copy of Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest for the Wii.

The controls are the biggest single problem with Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest. Any racing game needs exceptional controls. The controls in Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest are very sensitive. The game tells you during loading not to crank on turns. Over corrections are a huge problem for this Wii game. If that was not bad enough the computer is insanely perfect. Even on the easiest setting. I wound up being extremely irritated with this Wii game over the controls. I could keep it still and do well for a lap (maybe), but I constantly ran into issues.

Heathcliff is a rough and tumble character who has long been overshadowed by Garfield. I am happy to see him get a game on the Wii. I find it admirable that he is trying to save his girlfriend from kidnappers. Heathcliff the Fast and the Furriest could be a really good game with some tweaks to the controls. I hope that happens in a sequel.
