Grease The Official Video Game

One of the first movies I remember my parents exposing me to was Grease. With the rise of the music genre it is actually surprising that it took this long for someone to release a video game based on this franchise. It is also really neat to see older franchises getting represented in the video game world. It gets me thinking about other games that could be made in the future (like Davey and Goliath). Grease The Official Video Game on the Wii is part music game, and part party game.

Graphically there is a lot going on in Grease The Official Video Game. The pointer on the screen has a fantastic special effect that families will appreciate. I personally enjoyed seeing footage from the movie to prepare me for the next level. The dancing in Grease The Official Video Game is appropriate, and is from an older era. There is some violence as players race cars in one level. The cars can bash into one another over and over again. Thankfully Grease The Official Video Game punishes the players by slowing them down for this violent act.

I love how 505 Games bleeped out in the audio, and on screen some of the less than family friendly words. This makes Grease The Official Video Game much more approachable for families. I had not prepared myself for a lot of the sexual content in Grease. To be fair I have not seen this movie in a very long time. So a video game based on it made me face this content. Getting to sing songs like Summer Nights really exposed the difference in perspective between men and women. Yes you get to sing the songs in Grease The Official Video Game on the Wii.

We breezed through the story mode in a couple of hours so that was a bit of a disappointment. One of us did the moves while another one was singing. In fact four players can enjoy Grease The Official Video Game at the same time. Thankfully there is more than the story mode. There is a party mode, and quick play. There are quite a few mini games that are not included in the story mode that are based on various events from the movie. Family Friendly Gaming was given a reviewable copy. I do feel that families who like the Grease franchise will find their money well spent on Grease The Official Video Game.

I honestly marveled at how well the controls are in Grease The Official Video Game. 505 Games really shook up the controls keeping players on their toes. This is mainly cosmetic, but it really made levels feel fresh. The mini games included add to this diversity making Grease The Official Video Game a lot of fun. There were Family Friendly Gaming staffers who heard the game, walked over and started singing along. They were not playing, just enjoying the songs. The singing and the dance controls both worked very well.

I have to be honest and fair in my reviews. Grease The Official Video Game has sexual styled content, as well as some bad attitudes in different parts. Yes the lyrics are asterisked out, however it does not take much to figure out what words were being used. I even found myself filling in the blanks because I was familiar with the songs. With all of that stated I still enjoyed Grease The Official Video Game. I would like to see more retro franchises given this kind of treatment in the near future. Put on those leather jackets, comb that hair, and get some Grease on your Wii.
