Grease The Official Video Game

The Pink Ladies and the T Birds are on the Nintendo DS thanks to our friends over at 505 Games. When Paul came back from E3 2010 he told me all about this game. I was excited to get my hands on the DS version and see if it lived up to the movie. Players take on the role of Sandy or Danny in Grease The Official Video Game. Players tap the screen at proper intervals, as well as follow stars across the screen while the character dances to the song.

The characters in Grease The Official Video Game look similar to the ones in the movie. They are not movie accurate, but I could tell who was who. The costumes fit the characters in the movies at the various points where songs were being sung. They dance around with movies that will remind families of the movie. In fact I have not seen these dance moves in a very long time.

Families that are familiar with the Grease movie know what to expect out of the lyrics in Grease The Official Video Game. I actually noticed that certain words were blanked out in this Nintendo DS game. This is something we have asked for in Family Friendly Gaming for a very long time, so it is nice to see it being implemented. Grease The Official Video Game does contain some bad language especially if you fail songs. I really like many of the songs from Grease, and recognize how addicting they can be.

One of the coolest thing in Grease The Official Video Game is the unlockable content. There are various outfits, and levels that players unlock as they play this hand held video game. Grease The Official Video Game contains a single card download play, and multicard download play modes for up to two players. Got a friend who is also into Grease? Well ya'll can enjoy this game together. Family Friendly Gaming has enjoyed our reviewable copy that was provided.

Grease The Official Video Game starts out really easy. The difficulty level grows as the player progresses. The music style game play is decent, and there is some variety in it. One issue I have is the songs seem long. This would not be an issue except making too many mistakes in a row ends a level. I was doing fantastic for the majority of some levels, mess up near the end, and have to redo the entire thing. I suppose this makes Grease The Official Video Game a little more challenging. The downside is it is not as approachable to as many people.

The story of Grease is not completely told in Grease The Official Video Game. The core of this hand held video game is the songs from the movie. Some of these involve love, and others lust. There are songs about going back to high school, and driving really fast. When I first saw the E10+ rating from the ESRB I thought they were being a little harsh. Then I investigated the lyrical content and the lessons Grease teaches, and I completely back up the ESRB in their rating decision. There is a fine line to being true to the source content, and keeping it family friendly.
