Fruit Blast

There is a wonderful story behind Fruit Blast on the iPhone/iPod Touch. This app was created by a father and son team. It is very encouraging to see family members working together to create something. You know how much we love creation here at Family Friendly Gaming. Fruit Blast was a free app when we downloaded it. Players tilt the iPhone/iPod Touch around to move around the targeting crosshairs. Tap a certain spot on the screen to fire at the fruit being launched at the player.

Fruit Blast reminds me of Ape Escape in the graphical department. The monkeys who get to launch fruit at the player. The best graphics are when big chunks of fruit stay on the screen when the player misses them. The details in most other areas of Fruit Blast were not up to the standards I am used to on this platform. Shooting fruit that is being thrown at me does count as a violent act, but I saw it more of self defense.

The music in Fruit Blast is energetic. I liked the energy in this app. The special effect sounds grated on my last good nerve though. I did not understand the storyline in this game, but that is okay - I do not always need to. Fruit Blast explains the controls in written form, and they make sense. Although I am not sure what the point of a weapon select button is at the beginning of the game when I only had one weapon.

Fruit Blast includes enough challenging levels to keep fruit shooting fans busy for a few days. When it finally does go on sale, it will be ninety-nine cents which is a good price point for this app. Like I previously said I downloaded Fruit Blast for free, so I got my moneys worth. Okay, okay, okay. Technically then I have to decide if my time was well spent on this app. I believe it was, because I got to do this review, and assist the million plus who request assistance in which products to purchase.

I will be open, honest, and maybe a little blunt. I do not like Fruit Blast. I am putting all my cards on the table. I like the idea of this game, but the controls were not to my liking. Tilting the iPhone/iPod Touch around to move the cursor does not set well with me. Why not let us tap where we want to shoot? I believe that control mechanism would work much better. If you like that kind of control mechanism then you will love Fruit Blast. Or you may love Fruit Blast.

Fruit Blast teaches us to pay attention to our surroundings, find incoming problems, and destroy them. Some may even say with extreme prejudice. I wouldn't say that though. You know what would have been really cool in Fruit Blast? If this app would have allowed me to duck or sidestep it would have been awesome. I am interested in sequels to Fruit Blast especially if the controls are modified.
