Fret Nice
SCORE: 74
Fret Nice is one of the most unique video games I have ever played.
Players get to take on the role of a musician. This musician gets off
the ground and plays specific notes that match what is on the enemy.
Playing the right notes vanquish the foes. I am sure this is what the
ESRB lists as Cartoon Violence. Like most games the player is graded on
how many items are collected, and how many enemies are vanquished. You
can avoid the enemies but that will directly affect your score.
The unique feel to Fret Nice is continued in the graphical department.
You really have to see the screenshots to understand what I am talking
about. I can not think of any other game that Fret Nice reminds me of.
The animation is herky, kind of like Drawn to Life. I played the
Playstation 3 version of this game, and it does not push the system to
its limits. Which is okay, because I could tell what everything was.
I was totally getting into the music of Fret Nice. It has a great sound,
and audio feel to it. The music got my blood flowing, and I was ready to
go through levels. With all of that praise for Fret Nice, there is on
occasional issue - lyrics. There are some lyrics in this game that are
not needed. Thankfully those instances were not frequent.
Fret Nice contains plenty of collectible items, and multiple paths. I
had fun exploring the levels and improving upon my score. There is an
arcade feel to Fret Nice as well. Two players can enjoy this
downloadable home console video game at a time. The cost of Fret Nice is
lower than getting most games from a store so that is something to keep
in mind.
PiecesInt developed some interesting quirks into Fret Nice. You can play
this game with a normal controller or a guitar controller. Bear in mind
this is a side scrolling 2D adventure game. So the guitar controls can
feel weird. I preferred playing Fret Nice with the regular controller,
because it felt more natural. Points have to go out to them for trying
something interesting, and very different.
This is a real quirky game that most players will either love or hate.
Fret Nice is kept generally safe for families. The tones of the graphics
can be dark in places. The storyline in the game is kept pretty light,
so the main lesson is to attain a high score. Fret Nice is a different
kind of idea for a video game. Even after playing this game I am not
sure what I ultimately think about it.
