Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings

The RPG Master was very excited to earn enough money to purchase Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings. Finally a new Final Fantasy role playing game on the Nintendo DS. And then the RPG Master started playing Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings. This game is part tactics, and part real time strategy. Capture these large squares and have espers (editor: in essence monsters) fight for you. If you have an esper or two die, then summon another one from these small pedestals. The shocking thing about these small pedestals is the game tells you to pray before them. So the first lesson the RPG Master gleaned from this game is to pray for demonic looking creatures who will fight other demonic looking creatures. You can also sick them on human characters, which is another part of the game. Crystals are another major aspect of Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings.

The graphics fall into two categories. The first is the movie scenes which look really good on the Nintendo DS. The second is gameplay screens which are not so good. There are images of the espers on certain screens which have an interesting artistic design. Various physical and magical attacks are used in Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, as well as defenses. This DS game is much more offensive though.

The music in Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings is absolutely amazing. Square Enix could put out almost anything with the Final Fantasy sound and score well. There is some language issues with this game. Why Square Enix why? Can’t we get a clean role playing game? Please? It did nothing to enhance this game, and wound up distracting.

If you can get past the gameplay issues then you will find a fair amount of replay value. There are side quests which help the player acquire more items, espers, and gear. Many of those are replaying previous levels with a twist. This reviewer felt like money was wasted on this game. Money that will not be returned.

The controls can be tricky, irritating and annoying. Draw a box around the characters you want to move somewhere. If that is on an enemy they will attack. The computer controlled characters are not always that bright though, and may stand there while another enemy has come to the same area. The controls work great on the menu screens.

The story in Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings is stale. A bad character wants to become God by killing off God. Crystals are powerful items that connect to the summoning platforms. They are what the player uses to summon monsters to do their bidding. There are female characters who forgot much of their clothes, and hateful comments. Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings had potential.
