Final Fantasy IV The After Years

RPG Fans have been storming the Square Enix crystal tower demanding sequels to previous Final Fantasy games. The company that used to be so against this concept has come around in recent years. Role playing fanboys were very excited to hear about Final Fantasy IV The After Years on Wii. Time has not been kind to this game engine and Square Enix has mismanaged the release. The problem with this sequel is it is coming so many years later. Then there is the game number difference between the United States and Japan. Finally there is a real darkness in this part of the franchise. Square Enix could have continued the storyline and that would have satisfied many. They added an interesting moon system where different things are power on different moon phases. For example magic is stronger in one moon phase, and physical attacks in another.

Final Fantasy IV The After Years is very dated in the visuals. This turns off many of the younger gamers. There are certain female characters that could use some more clothes. Men wear full armor, but women are showing off a lot of flesh. Players pick the attacks and watch the characters enact them.

The music in Final Fantasy IV The After Years is fantastic. This is one aspect of Final Fantasy IV that stands the test of time. The language issues unfortunately do not. There are threats of murder, and an obsession with revenge. Characters use deception multiple times in Final Fantasy IV The After Years. Certain characters help the player, but for their own selfish reasons. Certain female characters flirt with enticement to lust.

Initially the RPG Master thought the replay value would be great in Final Fantasy IV The After Years. Square Enix has released this game in multiple chapters. If you want to play the entire game you have to purchase every single chapter. This becomes costly, and will turn off many gamers.

The controls are standard old school Final Fantasy. The whole moon phase becomes very irritating at times. The RPG also noticed that the difficulty is higher in Final Fantasy IV The After Years than the original FF IV. Many had complained that the original was too easy, so Square Enix went the other direction. Learning the story of this fantasy land will in no way improve your life. This reviewer felt like this WiiWare game was a chore to play and review.

Final Fantasy IV The After Years should have gotten an E10+ rating in this reviewers opinion. There is a lot morally wrong in this game. The player is out to stop evil, however compromises are made in order to defeat it. Too many people lose themselves in life when they compromise in this manner. Pass on this one my friends.
