Family Gameshow
SCORE: 74
Family Gameshow is essentially three different game shows on the same
Wii disc. There is Control Freak, Puzzle Addict, and Brain Strain. Each
of these games are different, and will appeal to different kinds of
gamers. Control Freak is where you select a section, and answer
questions. Puzzle Addict takes you on a Crossword puzzle game, and Brain
Strain will test your calculating abilities (editor: along with other
brain games). Each game has their own host that will make you feel right
at home, or on stage.
Visually there are a lot of great colors in Family Gameshow. The gloss
on the announcers is fantastic. The characters you get to pick from are
not so good looking. I tried a few, and found they were not at the level
of the announcers. The audience is kept in the dark, and are really hard
to see. I like how Storm City Games has the announcers mouths animate.
The problem is they seemed many times to be off from the audio. It was
not as bad as some games that don't try, but it was still noticeable.
I really enjoyed the announcers in Family Gameshow. They make this a fun
game to play. There is a decent array of subjects in Family Gameshow.
With that said, pay attention to the rating because there are questions
in Family Gameshow that you may not want your children to hear. I found
the frequency of such questions to be very low.
Most game show video games only model one game show. I find it very cool
that Family Gameshow includes three. This game can reach a much wider
audience in my opinion. There are over three thousand questions in
Family Gameshow. You will not be memorizing them too quickly. I also
notice the questions do not repeat very often. I appreciated that since
that has been a complaint in other game show based video games.
I have one major quibble when it comes to the game play in Family
Gameshow. You get life lines, and jokers which are fantastic. However I
do not get to use them before seeing a question. It would have been nice
to have it let me use one once I realized I had no clue what the answer
was. To be fair, a lifeline is used automatically when you miss an
answer. However I ran into situations with no life lines, and jokers
left. I could not use a joker because of how the game is set up. In
Control Freak I would have liked to have been able to pick the section
instead of watching it jump around really fast, and hope I synced my
button press with the section I wanted to do.
Families can enjoy some quality fun time together thanks to Family
Gameshow. There are various ways multiple family members can enjoy this
Wii game. To me that is one of the nicest aspects of Family Gameshow. I
like the idea of multiple game shows on one disc, and would like to see
sequels in the future. Storm City Games has raised the bar for this kind
of a video game in that regard.
