Excitebike World Rally

Hardcore gamers have been clamoring for a sequel to Excitebike for years. Nintendo has finally come through with Excitebike World Rally. This Wiiware downloadable game is a worthy sequel of the original franchise. The current cost is 1000 points, which equates to ten US dollars. Up to four players can play this sports racing video game on the Wii. Tracks can be completed quickly, but you will need to perform admirably to get the highest grade.

Excitebike World Rally pays homage to the original NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) video game in most of the visuals. There are some improvements in the up close shots, and the tracks have a real clean look to them. There is enough variation in the various countries to Excitebike World Rally fresh. Your racer will fall down when he hits other bikers, or obstacles. Oh I almost forgot you can also land wrong, and go tumbling. This Wiiware game quickly resets the player, and does not obsess over the mistake.

Nintendo does a good job with the music in Excitebike World Rally. I also enjoyed the special effect sounds of the motorcycles. Excitebike World Rally has some wonderful celebration sounds when the player wins the race. Players must achieve a certain grade or higher before being able to advance. This downloadable game encourages the player to perform better.

Nintendo has a long history of giving gamers a lot of unlockable content. The downside to that is there is very little available at the start. Excitebike World Rally includes enough levels for me to feel like I received my moneys worth. And yes I went out and purchased this Wiiware game. Families can compete against one another in this game as well.

Players turn the Wii remote sideways to play Excitebike World Rally. The main control mechanism is when to use turbo (editor: as often as possible), and which lane to be in. Certain lanes have obstacles, and others have things that replenish the turbo. Some jumps are only in certain lanes as well. There is a pattern to the tracks in Excitebike World Rally that players will memorize. I had fun playing this game.

It is really neat to see Nintendo returning to their roots in so many different franchises. I had never gotten into the original Excitebike so it was cool to play Excitebike World Rally. It gives me an understanding of the past of video games. I hope that Nintendo continues these trips down memory lane. Excitebike World Rally is safe for the entire family.
