Epic Truck
SCORE: 80
Paul wrote in his Epic Mickey review: "If you are going to put the
word epic in the title of a video game, it better be something special."
Sea Lion Games has done it with Epic Truck on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
They made the claim, and now it is time to find out if they are revving
their engines, or flying high. Maybe somewhere in between.
The graphics in impressed me in all areas but one. The backgrounds, the
vehicle, and the tracks all look pretty good. The animation on the truck
is exceptional. Oh yeah, I did say truck, as in singular. Sorry no other
truck choices. The help menu includes a female character showing off
some cleavage. Not necessary, and not needed. The good news is she is
hidden, and you won't find her unless you need some assistance.
The music in Epic Truck is completely and totally in your face. The loud
rockish sounds will wake you up. I believe that the music fits the theme
of Epic Truck masterfully. The revving of the engine while playing Epic
Truck is a little over the top, but sounds realistic. I found that I
could be stuck on the truck's roof and keep revving the engine and
running the wheels. If you are wondering it did nothing to help me out
of my predicament.
Epic Truck includes one world with ten different races on it. Well, they
are called races but more like get from somewhere on the left to
somewhere on the right. The other world is supposed to be coming soon. I
do not know if it will be a free upgrade or cost. Currently Epic Truck
costs ninety-nine cents. Family Friendly Gaming was provided a free
download code for this game. With that stated, I do feel there is not
enough content in Epic Truck to warrant the price. I also do not
understand why the developer would not finish the game, then release it.
We got this app after an upgrade. That is my little rant, and I will get
off my soap box now.
The gameplay is extremely simple in Epic Truck. Press to the right side
of the screen for the gas, and press to the left side for the brakes.
Tilt the screen to rotate the truck. It is very easy to get stuck upside
down, or fall into a pit. Now here is the weird thing about Epic Truck.
When we get stuck, we sit there. We have to reset the level to start
over. I can see this in some situations, but when I fell into a pit, and
am looking at a nearly black screen - what was the point? Reset the
level for me, because I can't save it at that point.
Epic Truck taught me to drive over, or jump over my obstacles. It also
taught me to learn how to make adjustments on the fly. Having four
wheels on the ground is always better than two. Finally playing loud
rockish music helps pump up the adrenalin. I enjoyed playing Epic Truck
on the iPod Touch/iPhone. I believe this app lays a good foundation for
a sequel. They did a lot of things right with Epic Truck.
