Dragonball Z Season 1

When it comes to anime, Dragon Ball Z is one of the most well known. Actually this series started with Dragon Ball, then went to Dragon Ball Z, and then into Dragon Ball GT. This mystical dragon will appear if someone collects all the Dragon Balls, and then summons the dragon. This dragon will grant one wish. There are a few rules, like it can’t bring someone back to life if the dragon already brought them back once. There is a lot of martial arts, and the warriors have all these special powerful attacks. The artwork (especially on the hair) is one the signatures of this series. I have seen bits and pieces of this series, and decided to go through the seasons. Season One is all about Vegeta. Goku learns about his Saiyan heritage, and even meets his brother.

I have to admit the artwork is really good in Dragon Ball Z Season One. There is unfortunately a lot of violence in this series. It does not stop there though, as blood and gore is also included. Certain attacks can rip through a body with a hole showing in the character. Then there are the images of the afterlife which are of an eastern religious nature. Finally there is a slight twinge of sexual content. Since this show comes from Japan that is not surprising. I was expecting a lot worse.

Dragon Ball Z Season One has a lot of talk of honor, stopping evil people, and doing whatever is necessary to save the earth. I love that part of the show. It also contains communicating with dead people, and a really bad afterlife system. Goku goes to hell when he falls off Snake Way. He was on his way to train on a small planet with high gravity. Dragon Ball Z Season One also contains a lot of references to humanoid characters as monkeys. Saiyans can turn into monster sized apes, but the references seemed to attach to something else.

There are thirty nine twenty-two minutes episodes in Dragon Ball Z Season One. The only thing that holds this package back is the content. Much of it is really spiritually draining. I would say pass on this package.

Speaking of the package, what is with the pieces that break. I am referring to the plastic pieces that hold the discs in place. Every single person I talk to, as well as every season of this show I have - has this problem. It is very frustrating. I like the layout of the packages, but discs are always lose, and sometimes fall out.

I really do not like how Goku leaves his family behind, and then can be wished back. It cheapens his sacrifices. I do like how he tries to reason with bad characters, and even grants Vegeta mercy. I am not fond of the blood, gore, and afterlife concepts in Dragon Ball Z Season One. I still found some good in this one though.
