Disney Tangled

While we wait on Epic Mickey, Disney Interactive Studios was kind enough to keep us busy with Disney Tangled on the Wii. Yolanda took care of the Nintendo DS version, and I took on the home console version. This home console game is based on the movie of the same name. No I have not gone and seen the movie. A little busy with Family Friendly Gaming, family, church, etc. This is a cooperative platformer. Players can swap between Flynn, and Rapunzel. Each have different skills that are needed to progress through this Wii game. Flynn can hack and slash through enemies, thickets, and search for treasure. Rapunzel can use her hair to grow flowers, pull up Flynn (who can pull her up by the hair as well), and log things in her journal. There are collectible items for each of them.

Disney Tangled on the Wii looks as pretty as a picture. The graphics and animation are top notch. There is a great look and feel to the environments of Disney Tangled. The little chameleon friend (Pascal) of Rapunzel's is a nice addition to the screen graphics. Players do swing their swords taking out bad guys. They fall asleep once the player whacks them enough. This is a nice way of disposing of the enemies in my opinion.

The voice acting has such an innocence to it in Disney Tangled. Rapunzel has never been in the outside world and has a real naivete which is so fresh and wonderful to see. She loves to help others, and that is a lot of what players do in Disney Tangled. Flynn gets into the picture, but he is a darker character. He is fun loving, but he does deceive Rapunzel from time to time. The special effect sounds fit the theme of this Wii game.

Most companies would throw together a platformer and throw it out on the unsuspecting public. Disney Tangled has more content than I was expecting. Levels are long, and contain a lot of collectible content. It will take weeks to unearth everything in Disney Tangled. Of course impatient gamers may breeze through this game in a weekend, missing a lot. Up to four family members can Disney Tangled at the same time. Cooperation is one of the main themes of this game.

Disney Tangled is extremely linear. Do this, then that, etc. Flynn is needed to open the way for Rapunzel in certain parts, so character swapping is required. The exploration aspect of Disney Tangled, along with helping out others is what I really like about Disney Tangled. The violent parts of this Wii game can get in the way of the exploration at times. I found myself wanting to get through those parts so I could get back to enjoying this game.

The biggest lesson I got out of Disney Tangled is misleading people is wrong, as well as selfishness. Seventy foot long hair is astounding. My hair is currently around one foot, and it takes a lot of work to maintain. Which is the main reason people with short hair give - too much trouble. Yes it can be a pain, yes it can be trouble, but it is worth it. One thing I hope Disney Tangled teaches is long hair is okay. I appreciate the cooperative game play in Disney Tangled, and hope there are more games in the future that express this concept in a fun way.
