DanceDanceRevolution
SCORE: 79
Dance games have come back this Christmas (in the year of our Lord
2010) with force. Konami was gracious enough to provide Family Friendly
Gaming with a copy of DanceDanceRevolution on the Wii. There are some
major differences between the Wii version and the Playstation 3 version.
First off there is no camera recording you in the Wii version, which
also means no uploading said videos to Facebook.
Family members can use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to play
DanceDanceRevolution. Or they can use the dance pad. Or they can use
both of them at the same time. Both at the same time is the most intense
dancing I have done in a DanceDanceRevolution video game.
I noticed something while playing DanceDanceRevolution, and it is
something the ESRB missed. Some of the dancers who just happen to be
female are not wearing a lot of clothing. Others are wearing tight
fitting clothing. Thankfully their dance moves are generally safe. I did
not find any dance moves that I would put under the sexual umbrella. The
various colors and visual special effects are great in
DanceDanceRevolution for the Wii. They are fun and fresh.
Music games live and die on the song selection. DanceDanceRevolution has
some lyrical issues. One song I remember kept using the word stupid. My
youngest son knows he is not supposed to use that word, and was helpful
enough to point out what this singer kept saying. There are other songs
like Love Shack that well, if you understand it then you understand it.
If not ask your parents. My eldest son was asking me why there are not
songs like Crazy Beautiful by Chasen. He was hoping for some Toby Mac,
Newsboys, and songs he knew from VBS.
I love unlocking content. DanceDanceRevolution starts out with a healthy
song listing, and then I found myself unlocking more. There are over
fifty songs in this full body dancing game. Numerous modes will keep up
to four family members busy. The work out mode is one that will appeal
to those who want to use DanceDanceRevolution as an exercise machine.
Just about any controller designed for the Wii works with
DanceDanceRevolution. Wii Remote, Nunchuk, Balance Board, Gamecube
Controller, and Classic Controller. I found DanceDanceRevolution to be
very forgiving in terms of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The dance pad is
a little more sensitive, and fickle but I have grown accustom to that
over the years. I had fun with DanceDanceRevolution, as did everyone
else who played it with me.
Yes there are other dance game franchises out there. I do not discount
DanceDanceRevolution because of that though. Families can get exercise
while listening to music. Hopefully you like the sound track in
DanceDanceRevolution. I found there are songs from different eras,
genres, and styles in this Wii game. Sorry to the country fans as there
is not a lot for them. I hope this franchise continues in the future.
