Cars Toon Maters Tall Tales
SCORE: 71
To say Family Friendly Gaming loves Cars games would be an
understatement. We have enjoyed the THQ titles for years now. Disney
Interactive Studios has produced some amazing games, and they are a part
of Disney. So it makes perfect sense for them to make Cars games, and
for it to be fantastic. Still I found myself apprehensive about Cars
Toon Mater's Tall Tales. I played it for a short while at E3, so I
generally knew what to expect. What I did not sense at E3 is just how
good Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales for the Wii is.
There are video clips from Mater's Tall Tales animated shorts. These are
woven into this home console game masterfully well. Players do a variety
of different mini games. There are over thirty so some diversity is
good. Get tires out of a burning building, or have some half pipe fun.
All of the mini games are themed on the animated shorts. I really got
into the Tokyo Mater mini games personally. There is some mild violence
in Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales. Generally the player spins out when
they run into another vehicle. There is a fighting game in Cars Toon
Mater's Tall Tales which will not give Street Fighter the run for its
money anytime soon.
The humor in Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales has me in stitches still.
Mater, Lightning and the whole cast are fantastic. The voice acting may
be clips and sound bytes, but it resonates well here at Family Friendly
Gaming. I did not find any offensive language while playing Cars Toon
Mater's Tall Tales. The whole monster truck wrestling concept still has
me smiling. The music fits the franchise perfectly.
Over thirty mini games would be enough to keep most gamers happy. Cars
Toon Mater's Tall Tales decided that allowing four family members to
party together with this game is also a good idea. Playing mini games
earn coins, which are spent on your vehicle. The depth of these
customizations is great, and I absolutely enjoyed creating my own
vehicle. Family Friendly Gaming was given a reviewable copy of Cars Toon
Mater's Tall Tales. With that stated, I feel this Wii game is worth the
money.
Before playing any mini game in Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales, there are
visual instructions that teach players how to play. I was able to easily
play almost every single mini game thanks to that. These games are fun,
especially with more than one family member. The computer is generally
easy to beat, but a few mini games will require more than one attempt.
Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales draws in people who do not normally play
video games. They enjoy the Cars franchise so much they were extremely
interested in playing this game.
The whole tall tales concept brings a smile to my face. I understand
that there are some out there who will be bothered by the stretching of
the truth. Cars Toon Mater's Tall Tales ends with something that makes
the entire story believable. I used this Wii game as an opportunity to
explain to my children if they stretch the truth too much, people will
stop believing anything they say. In my opinion Cars Toon Mater's Tall
Tales is good, clean fun for the entire family. The variety of the mini
games will entertain diverse groups. Controlling those mini games can be
a chore.
