Blood Stone 007

Activision has an array of Bond games out this Christmas. I was awarded the opportunity of reviewing Blood Stone 007 on the Nintendo DS. Family Friendly Gaming was sent a reviewable copy of this spy thriller hand held video game. Large portions of Blood Stone 007 feel like a Bond movie. There are some intense missions in this Nintendo DS video game.

It may seem odd to have a 007 video game on the Nintendo DS. After all this little machine is not exactly a technical power house. Blood Stone 007 tries very hard on this machine, and looks okay in a lot of areas. Close inspection of various graphics can be disappointing for those who adore eye candy. Blood Stone 007 contains a high degree of violence.

The real voices from the actors/actresses are used in Blood Stone 007. This added a layer of realism that made me feel like I was participating in missions. The music is also what gives Blood Stone 007 that espionage feel. The mission briefs were my favorite part of this hand held video game.

Blood Stone 007 contains a wireless multicard play for up to four players. This is for those gamers who want to compete against one another in a violent fashion. Once the story is finished I really see few reasons to replay Blood Stone 007 on the Nintendo DS. I found myself happy to complete each of the levels, and did not want to go back.

The game play in Blood Stone 007 threw me for a loop at first. Move the character around with the D-pad, move the camera around with the touch screen, and shoot with the 'L' or 'R' buttons. Changing weapons, and interacting with objects is done with buttons on the touch screen. I ran into real issues adapting to all of this. The good news is I eventually did. I can see others having problems with this layout. The vehicle levels control much better, but they can have loose controls. The diversity of the levels helped with the majority violent content.

James Bond is not exactly a choir boy. So when dealing with his moral and ethical issues, I expected a lot. Yes he is stopping evil, and he does so by any means necessary. I have a lengthy internal debate on this because some people have to be stopped. But then does that denote a lack of faith and trust in God on my part? I really do not know, and continue to strive toward understanding in this.

Blood Stone 007 earns its 'T' for Teen rating. The violent content means Blood Stone 007 is not for children. As an adult if I want to play a Bond game I am more interested in a home console version. Blood Stone 007 is Bond on the go though. I was not big on the controls at first, but they did win me over. I would love to see more puzzle elements, and more stealth elements in any sequels.
