Beat City

All of ya'll have no idea how blessed I feel at this very moment. I get to play games like Beat City, and express my opinions on the game. This is a Nintendo DS game that I knew would be rhythm based, but beyond that I was not prepared for it. Which brings a smile to my face. I like it when developers and publishers surprise me. It fascinates me to see their creativity at work. I marvel at their super implementation of their heroic ideas.

Beat City includes a lot of bright and colorful graphics. The better the player does while playing this hand held game, the more vibrant the backgrounds become. This really encouraged me to bring my best musical game to the table. Your character is out there saving the day, and bringing a lot of joy to this fantasy quirky little world. There is some visual humor in Beat City that families will notice.

The one drawback to any music based game, is it lives or dies based on the music. Beat City has a lot of fantastic tunes that were pleasurable to listen to. A fair amount of the game play also hinges on your hearing. I did not hear any offensive sounds while playing Beat City. I would advise all of our readers to keep the sound on while playing because it makes this game a lot easier. Yes I did try playing certain levels without sound, they were near impossible.

Beat City contains twenty mini games that vary in difficulty. I really enjoyed playing, and replaying these mini games. The better I did the more populated the background graphics were. I would replay certain levels just to do better, and see what else would show up. If you like music based games on the DS, then you will find your money well spent on Beat City.

There are a couple of different touch screen motions that players have to do at the right time to succeed in Beat City. My biggest problem while playing Beat City was determining when those were. Before each mini game there is a tutorial that shows when to touch the screen. I found the tutorials did not cover every thing in a level. So I had to experiment when something was not working. Aside from that aspect, the controls are fantastic in Beat City.

The main character in Beat City is trying to bring music back to his world. I have to say the storyline reminds me of de Blob, which is not a bad thing. Timing is the biggest lesson in the hand held video game. If you can feel the beat, then Beat City is a game you will enjoy. I would like to see sequels to this franchise in the near future. In fact I could see this franchise porting to the Wii.
