BIT TRIP RUNNER

I have friends who like to call themselves hardcore gamers. They like to make the wild claim that the Wii does not have games for them. BIT.TRIP RUNNER is a video game for the hardcore gamer. This WiiWare title is amazingly difficult. I do not care how good you think you are. BIT.TRIP RUNNER will humble you in a heartbeat. Oh sure you will breeze through the first few levels. Trust me this game will illicit an emotional response, and most likely not a good one.

I was not impressed with the graphics in BIT.TRIP RUNNER when I started playing it. I understand this is a retro game, but the big blocks made me think of Legos. Then I got deeper into BIT.TRIP RUNNER, and noticed various animations in the background. They repeat quite often, but that is okay. You never die in BIT.TRIP RUNNER. When you make a mistake, you get sent back to the start of the level. The game in essence rewinds you. Yes all the way back to the start of the level. Are you starting to get the picture where frustration will come into play?

I noticed there were two reactions to the music in BIT.TRIP RUNNER. People either love it, or can not stand it. I liked it, even though it can get repetitive. There are also special effect sounds that relate to on screen action. I also noticed that the beat in this game can tell you when to do certain things, which is really cool. I did not find any offensive sounds while playing BIT.TRIP RUNNER.

There are over fifty levels in BIT.TRIP RUNNER. You may scoff and say that is not too many. Well getting through all these levels will require a lot of attempts. Some levels are more difficult than others. You will have to be perfect to get through a level. Once you are perfect you can try to get every single gold bar in a level which opens up a bonus level. BIT.TRIP RUNNER sells for 800 points, so I feel it is worth the money.

I want to be clear that BIT.TRIP RUNNER targets the hardcore gamer. Hardcore gamers will eat this game up. Having to be perfect, and repeat lengthy areas becomes very frustrating. I had to walk away from BIT.TRIP RUNNER on more than one occasion. I would have liked a checkpoint halfway through some of the harder levels. Or maybe some kind of help after losing to a level 50 times in a row. BIT.TRIP RUNNER demands perfection. If you can not do that, then you will not progress.

I found no moral, or ethical issues with BIT.TRIP RUNNER on the Wii. Your character sprints at top speed, and it is up to the player to jump and slide around the obstacles. Kick through some, and block others. An ultra easy mode would have been nice, and maybe that will come in a sequel. Which reminds me, I am glad this series is on the Wii. I hope to see more like it in the future. BIT.TRIP RUNNER can be used to help you deal with anger issues.
