Arcade Sports
SCORE: 83
Arcade Sports is a WiiWare downloadable title that Icon Games
Entertainment was gracious enough to bestow a reviewable copy to Family
Friendly Gaming. Arcade Sports costs 800 Wii points, which is equivalent
to eight US dollars. The games included in Arcade Sports are Air Hockey,
Bowling, Pool and Snooker. The cool thing is there are variations of
some of these games. A good example is the US and UK versions of a
specific game.
There is some nice polish and shine in Arcade Sports. I enjoyed checking
out the scenery of a bowling alley. The animations are a bit stiff in my
opinion though. Arcade Sports has quite a few different realistic
looking people to choose from. They are shown from the collar bone up so
no worries about enticement to lust. The characters are not shown in
bowling, air hockey, pool, etc. This felt really weird in bowling to me.
Games like pool, and air hockey it was fine. Focusing on the table works
for me.
Arcade Sports has some of the most relaxing music I have heard in a
video game in a long time. I could feel my stress melting away while I
listened to the music in this Wii game. Which I needed because of the
difficulty level in Arcade Sports. We will be getting to that soon my
friends. The special effect sounds were very realistic. The sounds in
the bowling alley were nice. The few hands clapping seemed a little out
of place.
You get quite a bit for eight dollars. There are multiple levels,
unlockables, characters, and various game play modes in Arcade Sports.
If you know how to play these games, then you will find your money well
spent on Arcade Sports. Two family members can enjoy Arcade Sports. You
will want to play in the practice mode before trying the season. Just
trust me on that.
There is one area of Arcade Sports where I am not happy with. This Wii
game is insanely difficult. The computer controlled characters are very
good, even on the easiest setting. I found if I made one mistake I was
going to lose. I then went into practice mode, and could not score one
point in twenty minutes against the computer in Air Hockey. I have
played Air Hockey, and Bowling in other games on the Wii and never been
so schooled. I can see that on the hardest setting, but not the easiest.
Arcade Sports has no explanation on how to play some of these games. How
many of our readers know the rules to Snooker? I still don't, but I know
how to lose graciously over and over again.
I encourage families that purchase or own Arcade Sports to play it
together. You will have a lot more fun playing with someone as opposed
to watching the computer do most things right. I really like how Icon
Games Entertainment put together a video game that is safe for families.
I can see sequels to this game in the future. Foosball may fit.
