Advance Wars Days of Ruin

Advance Wars Days of Ruin is a dark and depressing video game on the Nintendo DS. It also takes this franchise in a really bad direction. The world has been almost decimated thanks to a meteor shower. What is amazing is the two major countries find enough time to continue a war. An evil scientist also plays a major role in this hand held turn based strategy video game from Nintendo.

Advance Wars Days of Ruin is very dark in its presentation. The little cut scenes that show the violent actions is very gritty. This is a disappointing direction for this franchise. Armies for different countries have different colors, so it is easy to distinguish between friend and foe. Some levels take a long time to complete, and there is a lot of cannon fodder. It can be a very numbing effect.

The sounds contrast the visuals by being in your face. The storyline is much older than previous installments of this franchise. Advance Wars Days of Ruin has bad language and that is a big shocker to Family Friendly Gaming. There are also characters that murder others in cold blood, and the game tries to justify their war crimes. Good characters help those in need.

There is wireless DS Multicard play in Advance Wars Days of Ruin, and players can create their own battle maps. The problem is the content gets so draining spiritually that the RPG found much of the extras to be very taxing. This game can be found cheaper than when it was first released, but it would be smarter to pass on it.

Advance Wars Days of Ruin continues the rock paper scissors kind of strategy. Capture cities, and factories to earn money. Use that money to purchase battle machines to destroy the enemy. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses. The computer plays some boards very intelligently, and others it blunders on through. Advance Wars Days of Ruin is not a fun game to play like previous games in this franchise.

It can be difficult to tell the difference between the good guys, and the bad guys in Advance Wars Days of Ruin. The main character Will is outspoken, and very emotional about leadership. Many of the other characters are either evil, selfish, or wind up being killed off. Advance Wars Days of Ruin is a depressing game to play, and honestly one the RPG Master will avoid. Any sequels need to return to roots.
