A Christmas Carol

I did not know what to expect from A Christmas Carol. Jim Carrey is not known to be the most traditional actor, so I was also a bit apprehensive. I came away from A Christmas Carol very happy. Jim Carrey does not deviate from the source material. He really does a fantastic Ebenezar Scrooge, which is something I was not expecting from this Disney Blu-ray/DVD.

Disney was kind enough to provide Family Friendly Gaming with the Blu-ray plus DVD combo package. There have been previous versions of A Christmas Carol, but none quite like this one. First off it is computer generated, but done from full motion capture. That may seem like a mouthful, but once you watch the behind the scenes you too will understand the T-pose.

The visuals in A Christmas Carol are very impressive. The special effects, and magic in this movie is absolutely amazing. I strongly caution parents in terms of watching A Christmas Carol with children. There are numerous scary scenes that had me jumping, and I am an adult. I can see kids having a nightmare after watching A Christmas Carol. So please be careful. At the very least watch it yourself first, and then make a determination. The ghosts and spirits are done very artistically, and have an interesting flavor to them. The movie is a lot darker than I was expecting.

The voice acting in A Christmas Carol is really good. The problem I had with the audio is the up and down. This is done for effect, but I would miss some dialogue while adjusting the volume. The reason is the dialogue is so much lower than the explosive music that usually went along with a scary moment. The music fits the movie perfectly, and I loved hearing the various Christmas carols.

A Christmas Carol has some cool bonus features on these two discs. The deleted scenes are the biggest draw for me, and I can see why they were not included in the movie for the most part. Behind the Carol is a neat little feature that I found to be extremely educational. I like it when companies include behind the scenes content like that. I also appreciated the Capturing Dickens feature in A Christmas Carol.

The menu screens on A Christmas Carol function properly, and are very easy to use. The story in A Christmas Carol is absolutely fantastic. Too many people in our world are greedy, self centered, and amassing the wrong kinds of treasures. A Christmas Carol shows that problem with that, and if you have the means to help those in need - you should. I have always believed in teaching charity in homes, schools, and churches. There is nothing wrong with being successful, just give back.

A Christmas Carol came at the perfect time in my opinion. This Christmas film teaches fantastic lessons. Scrooge fears poverty, and that sends him on the path to being a greedy money lender. In our current culture, we see that greed is still a bad thing. It is my prayer that A Christmas Carol will remind those in high up position to stop being greedy. Think about those of us who actually do the work.
