3D Dot Game Heroes
SCORE: 73
3D Dot Game Heroes is one of the most retro games Family Friendly
Gaming has ever had the honor of playing. This Playstation 3 (PS3) video
game includes so many references to previous role playing games that
part of the fun is finding them all. Most everything in this game is
done with little blocks. Hitting enemies with your giant sword will have
all of the blocks scatter across the ground/floor. For me this brings up
memories of the Lego video games. The storyline involves a 2D kingdom
that had a hero, six sages, and an evil entity. The hero sealed away the
evil thanks to assistance from the six sages. The world went all 3D, but
it kept a 2D feel. You get to be the hero that saves the world this
time.
At times I noticed the little blocks while playing 3D Dot Game Heroes,
and at others it felt just fine. The gloss on the floor of the dungeons
is awesome, as is the water effects in this PS3 game. Every area of this
game was expected. You know forest, ocean, desert, etc. The characters
have a very cute look and feel to them. The violence did not bother me a
lot because of the blocks scattering. When you have full health your
sword is insanely huge. Which made 3D Dot Game Heroes pretty easy. The
longer you play this game the more difficult the enemies get, so keep
that in mind, eh?
I really enjoyed the music in 3D Dot Game Heroes, as well as all the
retro references. A few of them were just strange, so I must not be sure
what exactly they were referencing. Each sage grants the player a new
magical skill that is generally needed in the next area (editor: or
accessing the next area). The special effect sounds will remind you of
games like The Legend of Zelda, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy. No
complaints from me though.
The level of customization in 3D Dot Game Heroes is high. You can design
your own characters and have some fun with it. 3D Dot Game Heroes
contains plenty of secret areas, and sections that will keep you busy
for months to come. There are a fair amount of items that players can
purchase and/or find in 3D Dot Game Heroes. If you are in a retro mood
then I think you will find your money well spent on 3D Dot Game Heroes.
The magic spells play a major role in the gameplay of 3D Dot Game
Heroes. Certain rooms need all of the enemies to be killed before
progressing. Other rooms require switches to be flipped. The puzzles in
3D Dot Game Heroes are really good, and will keep you on your toes. I
even got myself hopelessly stuck a couple of times while playing 3D Dot
Game Heroes. I had a lot of fun playing this PS3 home console video
game.
You spend your time in 3D Dot Game Heroes saving the world from a great
evil. The storyline is similar to plenty of other older action adventure
role playing games. The violence is the main issue families may have
with this game. If the Lego video games bother you, then pass on 3D Dot
Game Heroes. The opposite applies to that. Having almost everything
built out of little blocks is one of the things that makes this PS3 game
so special. I hope to see sequels to this franchise in coming years.
