X-Men Volume 4

X-Men Volume 4 continues the mutant super hero team that made it for five seasons in the 1990s. I remember this show fondly personally.  The headline attraction to this volume (feels like a season to me) is the four part Beyond Good and Evil. The two part Sanctuary is better in my opinion, and I wish that thread had been carried longer. The storyline is extremely well woven. Unfortunately the second disc is only one shot episodes. A Morlock Christmas includes charity, and a miracle. Mutants are everywhere in X-Men Volume 4, and a lot of villains make their return. It was interesting to see Magneto and Apocalypse throw down in one episode. Fans of Bishop will be happy to see more of him, along with Cable (another fan favorite).

Robots are one of the few things that are allowed to die in X-Men Volume 4. Even when it looks like Magneto will die, he is brought back. Characters wear various costumes, and the black Wolverine costume thrilled my first born son. The violence is at the same level, as are the explosions. I love the images of giving in the Christmas episode.

X-Men Volume 4 continues the great music that I can still hear. There is talk of evolution, making a perfect being, ruling over all of time, and other such concepts that you will need to talk to kids about. Especially existing outside of time, and time travel. Such concepts may thrill us in terms of imagination, but at some point our feet need to return to terra firma. The bad guys even have a respect that I appreciated. An example would be Mr. Sinister calling Cyclops - Mr. Summers. The voice acting continues to be great.

There are fourteen episodes of the television show on the X-Men Volume 4 DVDs. I am very pleased to see them released. Some kind of special features would have been nice. To be fair a French and Spanish Language track was included, but I think ya’ll know what I mean.

X-Men Volume 4 has an intelligent design to the lay out of the menu screens. The stories revisit many characters and themes. Leaving oppression and hatred is a theme that resonates strong with me personally. At times I get tired of it, and would embrace Magento’s invitation to Asteroid M. I also like how Wolverine teaches villagers to stand up to bullies in The Lotus and the Steel.

I can remember why I liked this show so much now. X-Men Volume 4 has a lot of class and character to it. I have mentioned many of the good lessons already. Wolverine gets information out of Sabertooth, but the show has the intelligence to not show the interrogation. They leave it to our imaginations, and I like that.
