X-Men Volume 3

There is something I miss from the cartoons of the nineties. There was a wonderful story telling that spanned a great many episodes. In fact X-Men (and also Spider-Man) from that era had storylines that were just like the comic books. I noticed something else while watching X-Men Volume 3 - the violence was a lot more tame. I miss that in cartoons. Bad guys can be beaten without the blood and gore many current superhero cartoons want to include. This two disc DVD set contains fifteen episodes, where the major draw is The Dark Phoenix. I personally really liked the Nightcrawler episode.

X-Men Volume 3 contains quite a bit of violent action. There are explosions, laser blasts, and more. The worst images I saw involved robots (or a cyborg) parts being disassembled. Wolverine is the most edgy character who mainly is threatening. The show finds inventive ways to stop him from doing any real harm or damage. There are images of characters praying, caring for one another, and saving other characters.

I love the music in X-Men Volume 3. The intro theme song is as good today as it was over a decade ago. I appreciate how Nightcrawler was allowed to defend God in his episode. I also am very encouraged that at the end of that episode Wolverine is shown praying, and reading the Holy Bible. One episode involving time travel has Xavier discussing mutations and evolution. This was very light in my opinion.

X-Men Volume 3 contains very few special features. There are sneak peaks of a few other shows on DVD. This is not that big of a deal, but we like to have well rounded reviews here at Family Friendly Gaming. If you enjoyed the X-Men cartoon from the 90s then you will find your money well spent on X-Men Volume 3.

I was able to move around the menu screen of X-Men Volume 3 with ease. To be fair there are not a lot of them, so that may have something to do with. I love the story telling in this show, and had a lot of fun reliving these cartoons from when I was younger.

I hope that Marvel continues to release their television shows from the 90s. I would love to get the Spider-Man cartoons from that era personally. There are a lot of complex issues this show deals with. A few are time travel, multiple entities inhabiting the same body, false memories, anger, love, mercy, and forgiveness. I like how the X-Men help out others, even if the person they are helping means them harm. The whole super powers will interest boys more than girls, as a generalization. I found a lot of good in these episodes.
