We Wish You a Merry Christmas
SCORE: 95
I recall being a child and longing to open my Christmas gifts, before Christmas morning of course. My constant insistence was sure to drive my parents to the edge of their sanity every year – as my children now do to me. But there is hope for us parents during the Christmas season, thanks to video game publisher Destineer. If you want to have some fun family entertainment during the holiday season – while keeping those little ones busy - then you want to check out We Wish You a Merry Christmas for the Wii.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas is the gift you open before Christmas. There are 13 holiday-themed activities for all family members to enjoy. Players can enjoy games like Elf Hunt, Candy Cane Lanes and Present Catch. All games support up to 4 players. There are also activities that include sticker scenes and even writing a letter to Santa. Families can roast marshmallows and listen to their favorite Christmas Carols while hanging out in the virtual Living Room.
The Living Room serves as the “main menu” for We Wish You a Merry Christmas. From there you have access to the Advent Calendar, games, activities and the fireplace. When the game starts, you can create up to 4 profiles, designated by the 4 stockings on the mantle.
The graphical presentation in We Wish You a Merry Christmas is a solid effort for the Wii console. Characters and environments are simple and work well with the Christmas theme of the game. One of the strong points of We Wish You a Merry Christmas is the sound track. The first thing I did every time I turned on the game was to turn on the radio. It is so refreshing to hear my favorite Christmas Carols while playing a video game. Families can take a break from the games and sing along to their favorite songs. The detail of the sound effects and character voices is also a nice touch. Hearing the Elves discuss the incoming bowling ball to Santa’s reaction to me dropping his presents provided some of the funnier moments.
The game takes full advantage of the motion capabilities of the Wii remote. Unlike some games that require practice to develop a grasp of the control system, We Wish You a Merry Christmas is simply to play from the beginning. The remote will be used for guiding Elves to pouring milk for hot cocoa. The Candy Cane Lanes bowling uses the same type of controls used in Wii Sports bowling, so those familiar with that title will be able to pick it up right away.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas is great for the entire family. Parents will have the opportunity to discuss game strategy, sharing and preparation (the gift delivery game). And while this game focuses on Santa and his little helpers, it is always important to remember and discuss the real meaning of Christmas – the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
I recommend We Wish You a Merry Christmas to any family looking for a
fun family experience, and for parents simply looking for a safe game
for their kids to enjoy. Finally, with most families looking to get the
most for their money these days, We Wish You a Merry Christmas has hours
of fun content for under $20.
