Wallace and Gromit Episode 2 The Last Resort
SCORE: 86
Wallace & Gromit's Grand
Adventures: The Last Resort is the second installment of TellTale's
Wallace and Gromit series. TellTale has done an excellent job in making
Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures feel as though the user is
participating in an episode of the claymation series. The Last Resort is
an adventure game that focuses on problem and puzzle solving. During the
game the puzzles can pertain to one character, or relate to multiple
characters across environments.
In The Last Resort Wallace and Gromit are planning for a vacation at the
ocean when their plans are canceled due to bad weather. Since thy can
not go on holiday due to the bad weather Wallace decides to open there
basement for business - The West Wallaby Street Water World. They are
aided in the preparation for their adventure with the flooding of their
basement, which makes there Water World possible. Once the Water World
is open for business, Wallace and Gromit are challenged with the task of
caring for their customers and solving a mystery.
This is the type of game that families can play together. Although the
gameplay allows only one player, family members would enjoy helping each
other solve the puzzles and work through the mystery together. As with a
lot of things in life, it often helps to have more than one point of
view. I can definitely see how this game could be enjoyed by multiple
players.
Also worth noting, is the focus on using problem solving techniques in
the game. A lot of focus in current video games is meaningless button
combinations an repetitive action sequences. It was refreshing to play a
game that encourages problem solving. Regarding the problem solving, if
the puzzles are too difficult for the user the settings do allow for
"hints" to be turned on (there are different levels of "hints").
The graphical presentation of The Last Resort is fantastic. The game
setup allows for the graphics to be manually adjusted for computer
performance. This is a great feature for those that may not have the top
of the line PC gaming machines that a lot of newer games require. When
the game is played at the highest graphical setting, it looks absolutely
brilliant. The humor presented in The Last Resort is the British style
of dry humor we have come to expect from Wallace and Gromit.
As with the first installment of the Wallace and Gromit series (Fright
of the Bumblebees), The Last Resort dose contain some mild mischief and
bad attitudes. However, the good of the game definitely outweighs the
bad. The Last Resort is sure to be enjoyed by gamers of all ages.
