Wall-E

Wall-E is a cute little movie that addresses a lot of different issues. This cute little robot is on earth cleaning up what was left 700 years ago. Humans have long since left the planet, and live on a huge ship out in space. They lounge around in floating couches, and rarely interact in real life with anyone else. There is a short humorous scene with two humans talking to one another through screens even though they are floating side by side. Wall-E collects human artifacts, and learns a lot about past culture. His whole world gets shaken up when Eve is brought down (editor: via a ship) to find plant life.

The visuals are at the normal high quality Family Friendly Gaming has come to expect from Disney Pixar Studios. The level of emotion with few words is a testament to their talents. There are also some fantastic scenes in space. There is some violence as robots have lasers, and blast beams that are used in certain parts of the movie. I did not have any problem letting my kids watch Wall-E, but wanted to get the violence on record.

The music is phenomenal, and fits the robotic theme perfectly. There is very little talking in the beginning of the movie, so that may turn some people off. I did not catch any offensive language while watching Wall-E on DVD. The environmental message as well as the reliance on technology are present but does not beat the viewer over the head.

Disney normally does a good job with the extras on DVDs, and Wall-E is no exception. There are some neat little extras to watch, and explore the Wall-E universe with. Since Wall-E can be picked up for around ten dollars, I feel it is worth your hard earned dollars.

I had no problems with the functionality of the DVD. The menu screens exhibit an intelligent design, and the extras in the background enhance the experience. I was surprised at some of the emotional responses I had from Wall-E. I did not find the whole earth covered in trash to be remotely realistic, but the reliance on technology seemed very plausible. I had concern for this little robot, and relief when humans came back to the planet.

I find it awesome that the love goal in Wall-E is to hold hands. This romantic basic carries a lot of weight in this day and age. The accidental hero works well, and I would love to see a sequel to Wall-E. The movie does not go into detail of how the planet got that way, and the inclusion of good robots, and bad robots worked nicely. Heroism and bravery is shown by both humans and robots. I do not want to spoil any other aspects of Wall-E, so please go ahead and see it.
