UP the Video Game

I took notice of THQ after playing their Disney Pixar Cars video game. I had known about them as a publisher before, but that game put them in the upper echelon as far as I was concerned. So whenever THQ partners up with Disney Pixar I pay very close attention. UP the Video Game is based off of UP the movie. There are some fantastic characters who are not your run of the mill video game heroes. The elderly man on his adventure is joined by a young man, a bird, and a dog that can talk (editor: thanks to a collar). In case you have not seen the movie his house is floating thanks to a lot of balloons. This review is for the home console versions of UP the video game.

This game is alive with color everywhere. The areas change, but manage to stay alive with explosive colors. UP the video game has some violence as things like dogs, an anaconda, and other perils face the player. The plane fights in the air is generally the worst I saw in UP the video game. Enemies usually leave after losing, or float away thanks to a balloon. Exploration, and team work are the main themes, and violence is generally a last resort.

The music in UP the video game is inspiring. I enjoyed the music, voices, and special effect sounds. The old man is a little grumpy so expect a little sass out of him. I do like how respectful the boy is. The dog is hilarious with his comments. If you have seen the movie then you know what to expect. If not expect a contrast between the two main characters.

UP the video game has a fair amount of replay to it. There are certain items hidden all over, and finding them can be challenging. UP the video game has bonus features that need to be unlocked. This home console game is safer than many games on the market, especially on consoles like the PS3, and Xbox 360.

There is a lot of cooperative game play in UP the video game. Characters are constantly helping one another, and I love that. I found myself really enjoying this game, and was a little sad when I had finished playing it. There is a lot of character to UP the video game, and it is one fun experience.

I would love to see a sequel to UP the video game. The cooperative game play works beautifully and never gets boring. I really hope that Disney Pixar and THQ continue to work together on future projects. I will be recommending UP the video game to family, friends, and pastors I know. The focus on team work, and less emphasis on violence is to be admired.
