The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road

The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road stands out amongst the crowd. This role playing game brings some fresh ideas to the table. The RPG Master is happy to see a Nintendo DS game loosely based upon Dorothy and Toto (editor: you can rename if you like). The controls are based upon a trackball that is rolled on the bottom touch screen. The turn based battles are also a little different.

Graphically The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road looks good. The majority of the characters look like their movie counterparts. A few liberties were taken, but nothing too notable. The witches are the bad characters that the player must go and defeat (to earn their wish). The RPG Master was cognisant of Dorothy's dress while she was running, but this did not fall under enticement to lust.

The music in The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is very addicting. Not only did it draw in this reviewer, it also interested anyone nearby. Everyone had positive comments about the music in this Nintendo DS hand held video game. The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road loosely follows the storyline from the movie. It is really neat to see a video game follow such a well known franchise and provide it in this format.

Levels in The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road can be long. There is a temporary save feature so the player can quit at any time. This game contains an average amount of items, weapons, and unlockables. Pet Toto often for some nice surprises. Only one player can The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road at a time.

The trackball is something that more games should use. Especially a Marble Madness kind of game. Each character in The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road has a ratio that they use. Dorothy and the Scarecrow have one each. The Lion has two, and the Tinman has three. The player has four ratios they can use in a battle. The interesting thing is this can be swapped around before any battle. Certain characters are also stronger against certain types. The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road is a fun DS game that innovates.

The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road on the DS teaches many of the same things the movie did. The mild fantasy violence is giving commands, and seeing the monsters take damage by an invisible attack. The RPG Master would love to see a sequel to this game. The Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road  is one of the better RPG game releases of the year.
