The Very First Alvin Show

If you have any interest in history, then you will be very excited to see The Very First Alvin Show on DVD. The three episodes on this DVD are The Alvin Show Episode #1, A Chipmunks Reunion, and The Chipmunks present Rockin’ Through the Decades. The DVD contains 74 minutes of interesting animation. Actually it is not complete animation as the last episode contains Will Smith paying tribute to the Chipmunks throughout the ages. I did not remember these little characters have such a lengthy history in this industry, but am happy to see them honored in a historical DVD like this one.

The Very First Alvin Show ranges visually. The first episode shows us exactly how far animation has come over the years, especially in the terms of background graphics. The middle episode is from the 1980s, so it is like most of the other recent Alvin DVD releases. I was surprised to see a ouija board being used. The final one is from the 1990s, and ranges all across the spectrum. There is a female character dressed provocative in this episode.

The range of music on this DVD was absolutely amazing. I found various songs that I liked here and there in The Very First Alvin Show. Snipits of songs with artists like Micheal Jackson are also on this DVD. Even the very first episode had some great melodies. I also found out that the twist (editor: a kind of a dance) was considered taboo at one time.

The Very First Alvin Show has one special feature and that is a preview of Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies. I feel this is a missed opportunity by Paramount. They could have contained a lot more history into these characters, and I wish they would have.

The two menu screens function nicely, and the stories on this DVD are interesting. Alvin goes over the top in the last one. The middle story is a real heart warming one that I am still pondering. The original story was a little slow, but had some interesting humor. These stories also show how society has “progressed.”

The Very First Alvin Show teaches some great lessons about family, taking care of animals, and abuse of power. I like to see historical DVDs like this one, and would like to see more like this one released in the future.
