The Tortoise and the Hare
SCORE: 77
The Tortoise and the Hare is a well known childrens story to teach children to follow through, complete what they start, and strive for success (even if winning looks impossible). Arrogance, and over confidence are discouraged. Disney’s take on this is the main theme of this Volume 4 in their Animation Collection series.
Disney included more on this 65 minute DVD though. Babes in the Woods, The Saga of Windwagon Smith, The Goddess of Spring, Toby Tortoise Returns, and Paul Bunyan. Paul Bunyan is the one stand out animated short movie in the WMG’s opinion. The graphics are all of the older variety. Many of them have quite a few bright colors in certain scenes.
The goddess animated short movie contains opera styled music that wound up annoying this reviewer. This animated short movie also contained the devil, and hades. The Tortoise and the Hare has an intelligent design to the menu screens. The WMG really has no interest or need for a Litho Print. Collectors of animated short movies may be into this kind of a thing. The extras are lacking in this reviewer’s opinion.
A lot of these animated short movies have a theme. This theme is of
how things were made from mythology. Paul Bunyan, and the goddess of
spring are the best two examples of this. There is some mild cartoon
violence on this DVD, especially when the Tortoise and the Hare compete
in a boxing match. The WMG will not spoil it for you. The winner of that
boxing match may surprise the viewer, or it may not.
