The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog is a fun little movie based game that has a lot of character to it. If you are familiar with the movie you know it is about a girl who kisses a frog who has had a spell put on him. Unfortunately for the girl, she gets turned into a frog herself. This sets her, and the prince on a quest into the bayou to find a way to get turned back into humans.

The animation in The Princess and the Frog on the Nintendo DS is fantastic. Some parts are dark, and others are alive with color. It is difficult to play any frog in a video game and not think of Frogger. The violence in The Princess and the Frog is mild. A glowing bug can turn these dark hand creatures into platforms the player can hop onto.

There is a musical nature to The Princess and the Frog. Jazz is the main theme of this hand held game. Certain mini games are completely musical in nature. The magical element of voodoo and spells is included in The Princess and the Frog. Many of the characters have less than honorable intentions at the beginning.

Disney Interactive Studios included so much unlockable content that a huge FAQ could be written on it. There are plenty of connections to DGamer, as well as various other extras that can be unlocked in The Princess and the Frog. This Nintendo DS game also includes single card download play, and multicard download play. If all of that were not enough there are real recipes included in The Princess and the Frog. If you are into movie games, or quirky little side scrollers you will find your money well spent on this game.

The Princess and the Frog is part cooking game, and part side scrolling action adventure. The gameplay mechanics are different enough to keep most gamers interested for weeks. Taking your hard earned secrets with you on to DGamer is also pretty cool. I noticed a masterful level design in The Princess and the Frog that was a lot of fun. My one complaint was having to find a specific character to be able to collect certain items in a level. It would have been nice to collect the items first, but that is a minor thing.

The Princess and the Frog teaches lessons concerning magic, true love, and not believing everything you heard from fairy tales. Greed and arrogance are shown as bad things in The Princess and the Frog. I like how Disney Interactive Studios mixed up the game play in The Princess and the Frog. This took the monotony out of the side scrolling levels.
