The Prince and the Pauper
SCORE: 81
I have been a fan of Mickey Mouse since I was a little girl. So when I first the read the press release about the Walt Disney Animation Collection being released I became excited. What excited me even more was Mickey Mouse stars in some of these volumes. The collectible Litho print looks like an oversized postcard to me, but it is a nice extra.
The animated shorts included on this DVD are Ye Olden Days, A Knight for a day, Old King Cole, The Pied Piper, and The Prince & the Pauper. There are a lot of little things in these animated shorts that show a bygone era. The most noticeable is certain characters that smoke. That kind of content never bothered me, nor did it make me want to smoke; however it would probably bother some in this day and age.
I appreciate how there are subtitles in English, French, and Spanish on this DVD. I was expecting some behind the scenes information, or a look back to the main animated short, but there are some sneak peaks at recently released, or upcoming Disney movies. The Prince & the Pauper has a medieval theme to all of the animated shorts that make this a fine compilation. A few more animated shorts would have been welcome, but I am grateful for what is included.
The visuals range from different eras, and the one black and white
animated short made my children appreciate color. The singing and
dancing is kept family friendly. The Prince & the Pauper teaches
authority figures to take care of their people, and not to abuse them.
Some other lessons are keeping commitments, and fighting till the end.
