The Munchables

The Munchables caught me by complete surprise. I had read the press releases, and generally understood the concept of this Wii game. Playing The Munchables is a completely different story. This is one fun, addictive little action adventure game. The Legendary Orbs get stolen by pirates, and the different lands of Star Ving (oh yes there is plenty of word play in this game). The Elder lets the player eat his/her way to cleanse the lands. The whole eating your enemies may seem bad until you realize the enemies are all fruit and vegetables (generally more veggies than fruit). The more enemies you eat the larger you become, which grants access to other areas and the ability to eat even larger enemies.

The Munchables is alive with color in every single level. The level of detail of the different bad veggies/fruit surprised me. The artistic look to this entire Wii game reminded me of a lot of other games. I absolutely loved eating my fruits and veggies and feel The Munchables reinforces that lesson. Since the enemies are eaten that may bother some people, I am however not one of them.

The music in The Munchables is also alive. I hate to re-use that term, but it is so fresh, vibrant, and fun. I really enjoyed listening to the music, and special effect sounds in this Wii game. There is a message about doing what is right, and not what is evil. There is also a minor message about respecting your elders. The humor in The Munchables brought quite a few smiles to my face.

I beat The Munchables in five to ten hours. I did not collect every item, so if you want all the accessories, and the highest rankings there will be more time spent. The Munchables contains some multiplayer modes that lets two family members play together. I like The Munchables and feel it is worth the price of admission.

The Munchables has exceptional controls. This Wii game is easy to get into, and has enough hidden materials to keep hardcore gamers interested. The storyline is one of saving the day, and righting a wrong. The Munchables also has a redemption message where the bad guy is given plenty of opportunities to turn from his evil ways. I had a lot of fun playing The Munchables and believe many others will as well.

Parents have been doing all kinds of things to get children to eat fruit and vegetables. This leads to a healthier life style, and strong growth. The Munchables supports this message, and I respect Namco Bandai for publishing this game. In some ways this Wii game is an offshoot of the Pac-Man franchise (unofficially of course). I want to see sequels to The Munchables.
