The Man who shot Liberty Valance
SCORE: 83
James Stewart and John Wayne headline in The Man who shot Liberty Valance. James Stewart is the main character in this coming of age western movie. His character is an attorney at law who moves out to the west where he gets rudely greeted by bandits. The sheriff of the town is a gluttonous wimp who wants nothing to do with stopping the bully Liberty Valance. John Wayne plays a local rancher who stands up to Liberty Valance and saving the attorney’s life. The territory has an interest in becoming a state, but there is resistance. Liberty Valance works for the bad guys and they have no qualms with using murder to achieve their goals.
Man who shot Liberty Valance is in black and white. I have no problems with this, but I know the younger generation ask where the color is. It is also weird to hear the characters comment on the color of a flower when we can not see it. There are some brutal beatings on this DVD, and blood on various characters. Certain characters get shot. There are also images of tender care being given to characters who are in need.
The music fits the theme of the scene in Man who shot Liberty Valance. There are a lot of wonderful lessons especially when school is in session. I appreciated hearing about the Constitution and how WE THE PEOPLE are in charge of the government. In our current age this kind of a holistic education could go a long way to changing many of the bloated government problems we have. There are a few mild language issues, which are way better than most current movies.
Paramount included a second DVD disc with special features on it. Most viewers will find The Size of Legends, The Soul of Myth because it is a 7 part featurette. Galleries and commentary are also present on this 2 disc DVD Centennial Collection. Since this movie is a mystery, the ending will only be in doubt the first time.
Man who shot Liberty Valance has some good menu screen designs. I found the story to be very engaging even though there are some adult issues dealt with. Two characters love the same woman, and only one of them marries her. A man murders others in cold blood and can live with it. This movie contains drinking, and smoking as common place every day occurrences. The acting is top notch.
I found some great lessons
in who is in control of the government, and standing up against evil in
Man who shot Liberty Valance. There are also some rough spots in this
diamond in the rough. I think that viewers can also learn to not wait on
professing your feelings of love. Lawyers are shown as a respectable
profession in this movie, and that is really rare. I do like movies like
this one.
